KUALA LUMPUR, 23 July 2026 – The Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Press has achieved a historic milestone in Malaysia's academic publishing landscape by receiving prestigious recognition from ASEAN Records and Asia Records. The recognition was awarded in acknowledgement of UPM Press's outstanding achievement in developing the first and largest collection of Scopus-indexed scholarly books among university presses in Malaysia.
As of July 2026, a total of 271 scholarly book titles spanning various academic disciplines have been indexed in the international Scopus database. The collection comprises 192 titles published in English, 73 in Bahasa Melayu, and six bilingual editions, with a further 20 titles having been approved and currently awaiting indexing in the Scopus database.
More notably, UPM Press has become the first publisher in the world to successfully index scholarly books written in the Malay language in the Scopus database. The historic certificate of recognition was presented to the Director of UPM Press, Professor Ir. Ts. Is. Dr. Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan, on 23 July 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC), in the presence of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.
The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the launch of the biography From Pendang to Bukit Aman: The Integrity Journey of Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, a commemorative publication dedicated to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
This remarkable achievement reflects UPM Press's unwavering commitment to advancing scholarly knowledge and enhancing the global visibility of Malaysian academic publications. Beyond elevating the international standing of the University's research output, this accomplishment also strengthens the position of the national language as a recognised medium of scholarly communication. It demonstrates that high-quality academic publications in the Malay language are capable of meeting international publishing standards while serving the needs of the global academic community.
