SCOPUS

Books & Publications — Featured in Scopus

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Press regularly submits its books to SCOPUS for indexing. Each book undergoes an independent evaluation by Scopus before being added to the database. To ensure inclusion, UPM Press rigorously follows SCOPUS’s indexing standards.

Although the decision to index rests entirely with SCOPUS, based on their internal review process, we uphold best practices to support each submission.

Evaluation Timeline: What to Expect

  • Submissions to SCOPUS usually take 3 to 6 months on average to be evaluated and indexed.
  • In certain cases—such as during heightened review cycles or content policy updates—it may take longer.

Scopus Criteria for Book Indexing

SCOPUS uses a Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB)—an international committee of domain experts—to evaluate publishers and titles. Both books and book chapters are reviewed for scope and quality.

1. Publisher & Content Scope

Only publishers with relevant, high-quality books are considered. Submissions should include scholarly monographs or edited volumes containing cited references.

2. Scholarly Quality

Works must contain research-based content, not just popular science or general non-academic material. Fiction and unsourced textbooks are excluded.

3. Editorial Rigor & Metadata

Submissions should include clear metadata such as author/editor names, affiliations, titles, abstracts, and keywords (preferably in English).

4. Transparency & Ethics

Publishers must publish a formal editorial and peer review policy, and maintain high ethical standards.

5. Content Readability & Reach

Books should be internationally accessible, with English-language abstracts and titles, even if the book is in another language.

6. Ongoing Quality Assurance

SCOPUS re-evaluates titles periodically. Indexed books may be discontinued if standards drop.

  • Uphold international indexing standards, including peer review, metadata quality, and ethical policies.
