SERDANG 27th Sept – UPM Press organised an Author's Appreciation Award ceremony held in conjunction with the Opening Ceremony of UPM Press Bookshop. 

The event is a symbolic recognition and appreciation for authors of books and journal articles published by UPM Press for their contribution to knowledge in the form of academic writings that benefits the university and the community outside.

The awards were presented by YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

There were six categories of awards; Highest Royalty, Best-Sellers, The Most Active Writer, The Youngest Active Writer, The Most Productive Faculty, The Most Popular Book, Evergreen Book and three categories for journals (Best Journal Article Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities, Best Journal Article Pertanika Journal of Science & Technology and Best Journal Article Pertanika Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science).

The Highest Royalty Award was given to Hang Tuah: Catatan Okinawa's author Dr. Rohaidah Kamarudin and Prof. Emeritus Dr. Hashim Musa from the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.

As for the Best-Sellers Category, 5 titles were selected; Renshucho Bahasa Jepun (Dr. Muhd Alif Redzuan, Prof. Madya Dr. Roslina Mamat, Dr. Sanimah Hussin & Dr. Yamato Eriko, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.); Interactively Speaking (Dr. Ho Sook Wah, Dr. Chan Swee Heng & Prof. Madya Dr. Yap Ngee Thai, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication); Perkembangan Kerjaya: Teori dan Praktis (Prof. Dr. Sidek Mohd Noah, Faculty of Education); Teknik Belajar Menulis dan Membaca Bahasa Thai (Dr. Norizan Che Su, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.); and Bahasa Arab Permulaan (Prof. Madya Dr. Ab Halim Mohamad, Dr. Pabiyah Hajimaming & Dr. Muhammad Wan Sulong Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.). 

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Osumanu Haruna from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, UPM Bintulu Campus received The Most Active Writer Award, while The Youngest Active Writer Award was won by Dr. Sharifah Norkhadijah Syed Ismail from The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM.

Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication won The Most Productive Faculty Award due to the active involvement of its lecturers in submitting manuscripts to be published.

Keris Melayu Semenanjung: Suatu Pengenalan written by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mua'ti@Zamri Ahmad from Faculty of Modern Language and Communication won The Most Popular Book Award. 

The Evergreen Book awards were presented to three lecturers from the Faculty of Education; Prof. Dr.  Sidek Mohd Noah (Reka Bentuk Penyelidikan: Falsafah, Teori dan Praktis), Modul dan Pengendalian Bimbingan Kelompok (Dr. Haji Jamaludin Haji Ahmad) and Asas Penulisan Tesis, Penyelidikan dan Statistik (Dr. Othman Talib).

Meanwhile, Abd Rahim Abd Samad, Nur Syafiqah A Samad, Mohd Johari Mohd Yusof and Katsuya Tanaka's article “An Economic Valuation of Urban Green Spaces in Kuala Lumpur City” won the Best Journal Article Award for Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities.

As for Pertanika Journal of Science & Technology, the award was given to Latifah Saiful Yazan, Nurul  Amira Zainal, Razana Mohd Ali, Muhamad Firdaus Shyfiq Muhamad Zali, Ong Yong Sze, Tor Yin Sim, Banula Gopalsamy, Voon Fui Ling, Sarah Sapuan, Nurulaidah Esa, Aminah Suhaila Haron, Fatin Hannani Zakarial Ansa, Ana Masara Ahmad Mokhtar & Sharifah Sakinah Syed Alwi for the article “Antiulcer Properties of Kelulut Honey Against Ethanol-Induced Gastric Ulcer.” 

Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science best article was won by Characterization of Phenazine and Phenazine-1-carboxylic Acid Isolated from Pseudomonas aeruginosa UPMP3 and Their Antifungal Activities against Ganoderma boninense written by Wong Mui Yun, Lee, K.W., Omar, D., Cheng, G.L.E., Nasehi, A. & Wong, M.Y.

This award ceremony is expected to be a motivating factor for academicians to produce better quality work in the future.
